Step 1: Enter notation

Step 2: Copy catalog numbers

Enter some valid notation in Step 1 to generate catalog numbers.

    Stamp Catalog Notation

Stamp Catalog Notation is a shorthand syntax for generating lists of stamp catalog numbers. The output can be used with other collection management software like Colnect's Search By Code feature.

    Single codes

Single codes can be supplied in the typical <country> <number> format.

    US C1 US C1

    Code ranges

A series of codes can be specified as a range by separating the numbers with a hyphen. Ranges are inclusive.

    EG 50-55 EG 50
    EG 51
    EG 52
    EG 53
    EG 54
    EG 55
The 50-55 range yields six codes.

If the first number in a range has a prefix then all of the results include the prefix.

    US C1-3 US C1
    US C2
    US C3
The C1-3 range yields three codes and C prefix is kept.

    Code skips

Discontinuities in ranges can be expressed with a slash.

    US 1-3/5 US 1
    US 2
    US 3
    US 5
One way to represent the series of codes between US 1 and 5 with number 4 missing.

    Significant figures

Significant figures are preserved across ranges and skips. If the right hand side of a range or skip has a smaller magnitude than the left hand side, then the most significant digits from the left hand side are added in the output.

    BG 2042-7 BG 2042
    BG 2043
    BG 2044
    BG 2045
    BG 2046
    BG 2047
The right hand side of the range has a smaller magnitude, so the upper digits of the left hand side are added to each code in the results.
    US 8-10 US 8
    US 9
    US 10
The right hand side of the range is a larger magnitude, so significant figures aren't preserved in the results.

    Combining ranges and skips

Ranges and skips can be combined in any order. They're evaluated left to right. The significant digits of the last code yielded by the previous term are used by the next one if applicable.

    US 100-5/7 US 100
    US 101
    US 102
    US 103
    US 104
    US 105
    US 107
Combining a range of codes 100 through 105 and then skipping the ones up to 107.
